RANG DE BASANTI is a film about awakening and about standing up for one’s beliefs, where the spirit of rebellion transcends time and age. A young London-based filmmaker chances upon the diaries of her grandfather, who served in the British Police Force in India during the freedom struggle. While screen-testing potential actors to play her characters, she meets a group of five adolescent friends; at first, feckless products of modern India, but whose zeal, actions and ideologies dramatically alter the political landscape of the country making them the most wanted revolutionaries. A hard-hitting, powerful and thought-provoking political drama, RANG DE BASANTI beautifully merges the period and the contemporary, to present a bold and entertaining snapshot of today’s youth. With path-breaking photography and an arresting soundtrack by Academy Award winner A, R.
