Sahib Biwi Gulam` is based on the novel of the same name. The story revolves around Bhootnath trying to come to terms with the modern day world. Bhootnath is stuck in the glories of the past. Slowly, stories from the part emerge, as they are told in a series of flashbacks. Rich memories excavated from the depths of the earth and restored to their former richness. A splendour transformed by time. The cruel tyrannical Majhlibabu, the philandering Chhothebabu, the prim and uptight Baribahu, the jewel-obsessed Majhlibahu and the lonely, tragic Chhotibahu who finally turns to alcohol to drown her sorrows. Saheb Biwi Aur Ghulam is a story in a cosmopolitan melting pot under the rules of the British Raj, with the winds of swadeshi fervour blowing across the national landscape.
