The end of the 1930s. In a Rome controlled by the fascists, the sensual and militant Carmen Tabacchi meets Nito Valdi, a diabolic and criminal man, who falls madly in love with her. It is not reciprocated, due to his violent and evil nature. Nito starts stalking her, obsessed by an unquenchable passion. In the meantime, Carmen’s destiny is intertwined with the Fontamaras’, a rich family who are found out to be Jewish and see just how cruel the racial laws can be. Carmen lives though the difficult war years, the German occupation, the resistance, the liberation, and comes, finally, to the day of reckoning with the stalker who has never stopped desiring her
