Soldier, spy, diplomat,writer, violinist, adventurer, chiefly remembered from his autobiography, which has established his reputation as the most famous erotic hero. “Not bore, not death,never,but only joy… and as joy does not exist without love… what is life, without love? Casanova’s memoirs are an unreliable account of his adventures with 122 women, and also provide an intimate portrait of the manners and life in the 18th century. This miniseries give life back to one the most interesting characters in history. Son of a couple of actors, raised by his grandmother and later on, after saving his life, protected by François de Bernis,the French ambassador to the Venetian Republic. When Casanova flirts with Elena, de Bernis’ love life, he turns his back on him, and Casanova ends up in jail. Elena helps him out and Casanova will have an unimaginable come back, he makes himself a millionaire by creating the state lottery and swears revenge on de Bernis. Madame de Pompadour, King Luis XV’s mistress and closest political adviser, will be his perfect strategy to achieve this objective, as she is publicly a rival to the Bernis’ political manners. Casanova is however set up by Charlotte d’Estrades, a member of de Bernis’ circle, and he is left with merely no money. He then decides to leave France. After all, he is still young, and opportunities are everywhere!
